Hari ini 1 Dec 2011 ialah hari AIDS Sedunia 2011. Hari Aids ini bermula sejak tahun Dec 1988 dimana hari Aids diwujudkan dengan tujuan untuk,

1. Meningkatkan kesedaran orang ramai mengenai bahaya HIV/Aids.
2. Mengatasi  prejudisme masyarakat kepada pesakit HIV/Aids
3. Meningkatkan tahap pendidikan mengenai HIV/Aids
4. Meningkatkan dana-dana bantuan kewangan untuk disalurkan kepada 
    pertubuhan/pesakit HIV/Aids

Berikut adalah beberapa fakta mengenai HIV/Aids
  • More than 34 million people now live with HIV/AIDS.
  • 3.4 million of them are under the age of 15.
  • In 2010, an estimated 2.7 million people were newly infected with HIV.
  • 390,000 were under the age of 15.
  • Every day more than 7,000 people contract HIV—nearly 300 every hour.
  • In 2010, 1.8 million people died from AIDS.
  • 250,000 of them were under the age of 15.
  • Since the beginning of the epidemic, more than 60 million people have contracted HIV and nearly 30 million have died of HIV-related causes.
Ini pula gambaran mengikut kawasan,

1.Sub-Saharan Africa

More than two-thirds (67 percent) of all people living with HIV, 22.9 million, live in sub-Saharan Africa—including 91 percent of the world’s HIV-positive children. In 2010, an estimated 1.9 million people in the region became newly infected. An estimated 1.2 million adults and children died of AIDS, accounting for 67 percent of the world’s AIDS deaths in 2010.

2. Asia and the PacificIn Asia and the Pacific, more than 360,000 people became newly infected in 2010, bringing the total number of people living with HIV/AIDS there to more than 4.8 million. AIDS claimed an estimated 308,000 lives in the region in 2010.

3. CaribbeanIn Asia and the Pacific, more than 360,000 people became newly infected in 2010, bringing the total number of people living with HIV/AIDS there to more than 4.8 million. AIDS claimed an estimated 308,000 lives in the region in 2010.

4. Central and South AmericaThere were an estimated 100,000 new HIV/AIDS infections and 67,000 AIDS-related deaths in Central and South America in 2010. This region currently has 1.5 million people living with HIV/AIDS.

5. North Africa and the Middle EastApproximately 470,000 people are living with HIV in this region and an estimated 59,000 people became newly infected in 2010. An estimated 35,000 adults and children died of AIDS.

6. Eastern Europe and Central AsiaSome 160,000 people were newly infected with HIV in 2010, bringing the number of people living with HIV/AIDS to 1.5 million. HIV/AIDS claimed 90,000 lives in 2010.

7.Western and Central EuropeIn 2010, there were 30,000 new cases of HIV, bringing the number of people living with HIV in Western and Central Europe to 840,000. An estimated 9,900 people in these regions died of AIDS in 2010.

Manakala di Malaysia pula pesakit HIV/AIDS sehingga jun 2009 seramai 86,127 orang dijangkiti HIV dimana 14,955 adalah pesakit AIDS dan bakinya ialah positif HIV.

Diantara jangkitan virus ini yang paling popular ialah  berkongsi jarum bagi penagih dadah dan seks bebas sama ada heterosexual, homosexual dan bisexual.

Berita mengenai HIV/AIDS,

KOTA BHARU - Sikap segelintir suami yang kerap 'makan luar' dengan pelacur di negara jiran dikenal pasti menjadi punca ramai suri rumah di Kelantan dijangkiti penyakit HIV/AIDS berbanding wanita di negeri lain.

Presiden Majlis AIDS Se-Malaysia (MAC), Datuk Mohd. Zaman Khan (gambar kecil) yang mendedahkan perkara itu berkata, gaya hidup bebas golongan lelaki terutama yang telah berkahwin menjadi faktor utama isteri dan wanita secara tidak langsung terdedah kepada jangkitan virus berkenaan.

"Ramai wanita yang menghidap HIV/AIDS mendapat (penyakit itu) daripada suami mereka, sesetengah orang (lelaki) pergi pada pelacur dan mereka terdedah (kepada jangkitan HIV/AIDS).

"Misalnya orang lelaki selalu pergi ke Sungai Golok, selepas melakukan 'lawatan' ke sana, mereka kembali pada isteri mereka yang kemudian telah menyebabkan wanita atau isteri mereka menerima akibatnya dengan dijangkiti virus berkenaan," katanya pada majlis sambutan Hari AIDS Sedunia 2010 peringkat kebangsaan di sini semalam.
